Over the last two weeks Iowa Future has introduced a series of five brief videos featuring Harvard educator, Tony Wagner, speaking directly to various Iowa stakeholder groups about the need for changes in education.

In each of the videos he refers to seven skills that students need for their future:

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving
  • Collaboration across networks and leading by influence
  • Agility and adaptability
  • Initiative and entrepreneurialism
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Accessing and analyzing information
  • Curiosity and imagination

He outlined these skills in his book The Global Achievement Gap, the seminal book that explains why “even the best schools cannot prepare kids for the 21st Century” and why all learners must have these seven essential skills if they are to be successful in the new knowledge economy.

Now, here is a 30-minute video version of Tony summarizing the key ideas from his book.
